Subic, ZAMBALES – GNPower Mariveles Energy Ltd. Co. (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD), collectively known as GMEC-GNPD, embraced a unique approach to commemorate World Earth Day 2024.

During a company team-building event at White Rock Beach Resort and Waterpark, employees observed a one-minute silence, highlighting the growing global concern about the harmful effects of excessive noise.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), noise pollution is a rising global health problem. Studies have shown that chronic exposure to loud noises can lead to a range of health problems including:

  • Hearing loss
  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Heart disease
  • Sleep disturbances

GMEC-GNPD is committed to proactively managing noise impacts. This includes the regular maintenance routines to ensure equipment operates optimally, reducing excess noise. Also, GMEC-GNPD strictly adheres to the noise standards outlined by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Ongoing monitoring ensures operations remain within permissible levels.

Beyond noise mitigation, GMEC-GNPD embraces a broader environmental focus. GNPD’s “Adopt a Plant” activity encourages bringing nature into homes and workplaces, promoting air quality and well-being.

Moreover, GNPD’s Environment team is set to launch a special webinar on waste management on April 26, 2024, aligning with the Earth Day theme of “Plant vs. Plastics” and promoting a more sustainable future.

These actions on World Earth Day reflect GMEC-GNPD’s ongoing dedication to environmental responsibility. GMEC-GNPD takes environmental stewardship seriously year-round with programs like the mangrove protection project. This project, just one aspect of their comprehensive P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S program, highlights the company’s dedication to protecting vital ecosystems and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S. stands for Protect marine life, Reforest Land, Optimize wealth from waste, Generate livelihood skills and income, Rehabilitate social infrastructure, Elevate educational opportunities, Safeguard quality health access, and Strengthen disaster resiliency.

Silence Speaks Volumes: During their World Earth Day team building, GMEC-GNPD employees paused for a minute.
